The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is a globally recognized professional qualification focused on developing practical accounting skills, often referred to as a “passport to the accounting field” and a “golden key” to entering the accounting industry. How to get AAT Certificate? AAT itself is a professional accounting education institution, founded in 1980 and headquartered in the UK. It is not only a provider of qualifications but also a professional body with a large membership.
A key point is that AAT is a founding member of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). This means that obtaining an AAT qualification allows for a smooth transition to these top global accounting qualifications, granting numerous subject exemptions.
AAT Qualification Levels
The AAT qualification uses a tiered structure, divided into three levels from lowest to highest:
Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (Basic Level)
Suitable for: Individuals with no prior accounting experience.
Course Content: Introductory knowledge of accounting basics, bookkeeping, cost accounting, etc.
Career Roles: Accounting clerk, junior bookkeeper. Level 3 Diploma in Accounting (Skill Level)
Suitable for: Accounting assistants with basic knowledge or students who have completed Level 2.
Course Content: Advanced bookkeeping, management accounting, financial statement preparation, etc.
Career Roles: Senior bookkeeper, payroll specialist, accounting technician.
Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting (Advanced/Professional Level)
Suitable for: Students who wish to pursue senior finance positions or develop a career as a chartered accountant.
Course Content: Financial management, auditing, taxation, ethics, etc.
Career Roles: Assistant auditor, business analyst, tax specialist, finance manager. This is the highest level in AAT. Upon completion, one can apply for full membership in AAT (MAAT).
